Primary Responsibilities :
1. Strategic Sourcing & Vendor Development Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with organizational objectives. Identify, evaluate, qualify, and develop reliable suppliers for mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and pneumatic components. Source engineering materials including: Stainless Steel (SS) & Mild Steel (MS) Plates Pipes & Tubes Flanges & Fittings Motors & Gearboxes Bearings Pneumatic Components Valves Control Panels PLCs & HMIs Sensors Electrical Components Fabrication Items Industrial Automation Products Conduct supplier capability assessments and periodic vendor performance evaluations. Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, warranties, and commercial agreements. Develop alternate sourcing strategies to minimize procurement risks. Maintain and regularly update the Approved Vendor List (AVL). Conduct supplier audits to ensure quality, compliance, and delivery performance. 2. Purchase Operations Manage end-to-end procurement activities from purchase requisition to material receipt. Review Bills of Materials (BOMs), engineering drawings, and production plans before procurement. Generate and approve Purchase Orders (POs) through ERP systems. Ensure procurement aligns with production schedules and project timelines. Track purchase orders and expedite deliveries whenever required. Coordinate with Stores, Production, Planning, Design, and Quality departments regarding procurement priorities. Ensure procurement processes comply with company policies and procurement SOPs. 3. Cost Control & Procurement Analysis Manage procurement budgets and optimize purchasing costs. Analyze Purchase Price Variance (PPV) and recommend corrective actions. Identify opportunities for cost reduction through: Vendor negotiations Bulk purchasing Alternate sourcing Value engineering Establish Annual Rate Contracts (ARC) and long-term agreements for repetitive procurement items. Monitor market trends, raw material prices, and supplier performance. Prepare procurement MIS reports and cost-saving analyses for management review. 4. Documentation, Compliance & ERP Management Ensure accurate documentation of: RFQs Vendor Quotations Comparative Statements Purchase Orders Delivery Challans Inspection Reports Invoices Vendor Correspondence Maintain procurement records in ERP systems for complete traceability. Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, company policies, and quality management systems. Support internal, external, ISO, and customer audits. Coordinate import/export documentation where applicable. 5. Inventory & Material Planning Work closely with inventory and stores teams to maintain optimum stock levels. Prevent material shortages while minimizing excess inventory. Monitor inventory turnover and procurement lead times. Support production planning through effective material availability. Coordinate urgent procurement requirements during project execution. 6. Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Coordination Lead, mentor, and develop the procurement team. Allocate procurement responsibilities and monitor team performance. Coordinate with Design and Engineering teams to understand technical specifications. Work with Accounts for vendor reconciliation and payment processing. Coordinate with Quality Control to resolve incoming material quality issues. Build strong relationships with key suppliers and stakeholders. Resolve supplier disputes, delivery delays, and commercial issues promptly.
Experience Requirements:
Required Technical Skills Strong knowledge of engineering procurement and industrial supply chains. Sound understanding of: Mechanical Components Electrical Equipment Pneumatic Systems Automation Products Fabrication Materials Industrial Consumables Ability to read engineering drawings, specifications, and BOMs. Knowledge of strategic sourcing and vendor development. Strong commercial negotiation and contract management skills. Experience in project-based procurement. Understanding of inventory planning and procurement lead times. Knowledge of quality systems and supplier audits. Software Skills ERP Systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Tally ERP, or equivalent) Microsoft Excel (Advanced) Pivot Tables VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP Power Query (Preferred) Procurement MIS Reporting Microsoft Office Suite Core Competencies Strategic Procurement Vendor Development Supplier Relationship Management Cost Optimization Commercial Negotiation Contract Management Inventory Planning Analytical Thinking Decision Making Leadership & Team Management Communication & Stakeholder Management Problem Solving Time Management Qualifications Essential Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering. Preferred MBA in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or Procurement. Experience Minimum 8+ years of experience in procurement within: Engineering Manufacturing Industrial Automation Process Equipment Solids Handling Equipment Heavy Engineering Fabrication EPC OEM Manufacturing Experience in handling high-value procurement and project-based purchasing is highly preferred.
