JOB DESCRIPTION FOR HEAD OF ENGINEERING> > > BASIC PURPOSE> > To plan, formulate, administer, and coordinate various engineering programs designed to improve plant operating performance and reduce waste and delays in the manufacturing process, and implement other, similar engineering programs to achieve better quality and lower costs. To evaluate, develop and recommend improvements in manufacturing methods, layouts and material handling equipment.> > DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES> > Ensure proper use of machines, tools and equipment; appraises technological developments, investigating feasibility of new equipment and techniques, and prepares dependable cost estimates for changes in production methods> Ensures maintenance of various engineering records and prepares reports to measure the effectiveness of existing facilities and methods for current and projected production schedules> Planning and coordinating activities involved in the maintenance and alteration of facilities and equipment, including the movement, installation, repair, and overhaul of machines, tools and plant equipment.> Instructs and assists personnel and inspects work to ensure compliance with customer and engineering specifications as to dimensions, tolerance and materials used in company products.> Adheres to and assists in monitoring spirit of the company's EEO philosophy.> Ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations issued by OSHA, NEMA and other govt agencies.> Establishes, in liaison with the production manager, priorities of all maintenance activities through a work order procedure.> Monitors completion of maintenance projects to ensure that safety and quality standards are met.> Approves all requisitions relating to new and replacement parts, supplies, machinery and equipment for the maintenance department.> Provides technical knowledge and expertise to solve problems of a mechanical, electrical or hydraulic/pneumatic nature.> Participates in the development of new or improved products, recommends and specifies new materials and/or equipment and designs the process flow> Periodically examines unit processes for updating techniques, quality and overall efficiency> Supervises the design and development of machinery equipment and fixtures for production and quality assurance test equipment> Knowledge of VFFS machines, industrial gas burners, extruders, fryers, compressors, generators, and industrial switchgear a must. The plant is a busy snack food and spices manufacturing and packing plant.> > ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP> > This position reports directly to the Managing director. Reporting to this position are employees within the department> The holder of this position shall coordinate closely with all heads of departments.> > POSITION SPECIFICATION> > The normal education, training, core competencies and experience required for the position includes the following:> Holder of Bachelor's degree in Engineering> Minimum 10 years working experience in a similar position in a food processing plant> Good knowledge of computer application skills> Knowledge of quality management systems and HACCP> Progressive experience in a labor intensive fabrication and assembly operation
