Job Title: Quality Manager
Department: Quality Assurance / Quality Control

Job Purpose:

To lead and manage the Quality function by developing and implementing robust Quality Management Systems (QMS), ensuring compliance with product and process standards, overseeing inspections and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), and driving continuous improvement in the manufacturing quality of solids handling and automation systems.

 

Qualifications & Experience:

Education: Diploma / B.E. in Mechanical or Production Engineering.

Experience: 8–12 years in Quality Assurance/Control, including at least 3 years in a leadership role within an engineering or automation-based manufacturing organization.

Working Conditions:

Full-time, factory and shop-floor-based position.

Close interaction with Design, Production, Purchase, and Customer teams.

Occasional travel for vendor audits or site-related quality issues.

Mandatory presence during scheduled FAT sessions and audits.

Experience Requirements:

Key Responsibilities:

1. Quality Management System (QMS)

Develop, implement, and maintain ISO 9001 or equivalent QMS documentation.

Establish quality policies, objectives, procedures, and inspection plans.

Conduct internal audits and coordinate external audits (customer/ISO certification).

Ensure proper documentation control and traceability for projects and components.

2. In-Process & Final Inspection

Oversee stage-wise inspections of fabrication, machining, assembly, and automation panels.

Review and approve inspection checklists and quality reports.

Ensure final QC clearance of critical equipment such as screw conveyors, mixers, bin activators, rotary valves, and control panels.

Coordinate third-party inspections and customer witness inspections.

Ensure compliance with in-house design standards and best engineering practices related to surface finish, weld quality, and dynamic balancing of rotating equipment.

3. Incoming Material Quality

Review and approve incoming raw materials and bought-out components (steel, hardware, motors, valves, sensors, etc.).

Oversee Material Test Certificate (MTC) verification and inward QC reports.

Coordinate with vendors to resolve material rejections or quality issues and initiate debit notes where required for non-compliance.

4. Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)

Plan and execute Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for major equipment and automation systems.

Coordinate with Design, Projects, and Customer teams for FAT scope, schedule, and readiness.

Ensure test procedures, instrumentation setup, and documentation are prepared in advance.

Record and report FAT results, deviations, corrective actions, and approvals.

Ensure compliance with customer-specific FAT protocols and documentation requirements.

5. Team Management & Training

Lead and manage the QC team (inspectors, weld quality inspectors, etc.) and allocate responsibilities.

Train internal teams on quality standards, drawing interpretation, welding symbols, and inspection methods.

Promote quality awareness across Production and Procurement departments.

6. Customer Complaints & Corrective Action

Investigate customer complaints and field failures; conduct root cause analysis.

Implement and monitor Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).

Maintain NCR register and customer complaint records.

7. Documentation & Reporting

Maintain quality dossiers, inspection records, calibration logs, and material traceability documents (soft and hard copies).

Prepare MIS reports for management covering rejections, deviations, and quality KPIs.

Ensure project documentation is complete for FAT sign-off, dispatch clearance, and audits.

Key Skills & Competencies:

Strong knowledge of fabrication, welding, machining, surface finishing, painting technology, and automation QC.

Expertise in interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, and quality standards.

Proficiency in inspection tools and measurement instruments.

Experience in managing FAT, third-party inspections, and customer audits.

Strong leadership, team management, and audit-handling capabilities.

Knowledge of ISO 9001, stage inspections, root cause analysis, and quality improvement tools.
